Pay for publishing commercial ‘3D Life Player’ content

Filed under: Virtools — dominique @ 12:13

Aynbody reading license text?

 1D. LIMITATIONS ON THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE FOR ALL LICENSES.  Pursuant to this License, Licensee is NOT entitled to:

(…)

- Use the Content for the 3D Life Player for commercial usages or promotion purposes;

(…)

The hereabove operations, and more generally any operation not expressly authorized under this License, shall only be carried out by Licensee pursuant to a separate license agreement to be previously agreed upon and executed with Dassault Systèmes or its Licensors, on a case by case basis.

(…)

This one was NOT in the 3.5 license text.  Did any customer get an e-mail before the 4.0 release with a notice, that this will changed? We didn’t. I mean I can imagine that there are companies that are build around the creation of Web3D content - they are affected by this intensively.

  1. This question of the use of the web player is extremely disturbing. Our business model is built in part around the idea of a free web player. Am I to understand that this is changing? I am waiting for Dev 4, but I received no info about a possible change in the licensing model…. tekton

  2. It seems that nobody was formally informed.

    The best way to know exactly about it, is to ask your reseller who will query the details from Virtools directly. All I can say is, that the license text has changed and on the website there is a new publishing chart that says it needs a publishing agreement for using the 3d life player for commercial usage.

    When you ask your reseller, poll as much information as possible because most of the nomenclature was changed too.
